The terms “Fine” and “Micro Fine” wire refer to the wire gauge as defined by the AWG (American Wire Gauge) – wire gauge being the diameter of the wire’s cross-section. The higher the gauge number, the smaller the wire’s diameter.
FINE WIRE FORMING
Fine and Ultrafine wire gauges down through 40 gauge AWG, or .00025 inches, which is 1/10th the thickness of human hair. There are some variations among gauge classifications that define whether a wire is considered fine wire or ultrafine wire. This distinction is often based on the type of wire material.
At CWT, we use ultra fine wires that are extremely flexible. For medical applications, this flexibility makes it easier for maneuvering inside the human cardiovascular system. Minute defects in the wire strand, coiling specs or forms can lead to failure of the entire device or serious problems during application.
Because most of our OEM clients require microscopic wire components drawn to tiny dimensions, we place every precaution, measurement and quality test in place to ensure a flawless, consistent product. Our internal standards include using ultra-tight tolerances to measure wires and coils throughout the various stages: incoming wires during shaping, after coating and manufacturing stages, and for final quality checks.
